Ankle brachial pressure index From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ankle_brachial_pressure_index The Ankle Brachial Index (ABI or ABPI) is the ratio of the blood pressure in the lower legs to the blood pressure in the arms. Compared to the arm, lower blood pressure in the leg is an indication of blocked arteries (peripheral vascular disease or PVD). The ABI is calculated by dividing the systolic blood pressure at the ankle by the systolic blood pressures in the arm.[1]   Contents  [hide]  1 Method 2 Interpretation of results 3...

VICORDER® Provides Non-Invasive Peripheral Blood Pressures

The Vicorder provides non-invasive measurement of peripheral and central blood pressures in combination with haemodynamic parameters and arterial stiffness. Arterial pulse waveforms are recorded using PVR (pulse volume recording) measurements from a standard vascular cuff. The waveforms can be acquired in up to two sites simultaneously to provide pulse transit time (TT) and pulse wave velocity (PWV) measurements for the assessment of arterial stiffness. Typically the PWV is measured between the carotid and femoral arteries in a quick and highly reproducible technique that is operator independent....

The Vicorder Edges out SphygmoCor

Author information 1Academic Vascular Surgical Unit, Hull York Medical School and University of Hull, Hull, UK. yousef.shahin@yahoo.co.uk Abstract To assess the reliability and reproducibility of the Vicorder's carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) measurements in patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and to compare between cfPWV measurements obtained using the Vicorder with those obtained using the SphygmoCor device as a reference. Some 30 patients with PAD (23 men, mean age 64.9±7.5) underwent cfPWV measurement twice by a single investigator during one visit...
